Gem Lake Hike

We wanted to go for a hike as a family and decided on Gem Lake, unfortunately, as we were traveling up the mountain we were stopped and told that due to road construction we could either turn around or wait for 50 minutes until they let people through again. At first we were going to turn around but decided to wait it out. Glad we did because it was a great hike.

Hannah finding rocks to throw into the water as we wait.

The kids quickly found some big rocks to climb that over looked a river. As Kailyn was looking at the scenery, she dropped her camera into a big crack in the rock.

After looking into the crack, she feared it had fallen into the crack and landed in the water. She was very upset as it was a new camera she had gotten for Christmas and it had a huge school project recorded on it. Luckily, after lots of looking we were finally able to spot it and even luckier we were actually able to get it out with some long arms and long sticks.

Kailyn watching me as I try to fish out her camera.

Glad to be reunited with her camera.

Soon the road was clear and we continued onto our hike.

The end of the hike led to a beautiful lake and some fun rock walls to climb.

Back when we stayed at the YMCA of the Rockies, we won a gift certificate to the local grocery store. Ken thought it would be fun to divide the money evenly between the kids and let them get whatever they wanted. Of course, they went straight for the the things we don't often (if ever) get at home.

So many things to choose from...

The kids of course thought it was the greatest thing ever.
