Home for the Holidays, part 1

So, the December schedule came out.  Ken knew he had Christmas off, but last year he had it off and only got 3 days off.  That's hardly enough time to make the 12 hour drive home and then turn around and come back.  So, we planned on staying home this year, too.  Somehow, when the schedule came out, Ken had 7 days off.  That's just too many days off without making a trip back home for the holidays!!  So, we enjoyed beautiful weather and mostly-clear roads and made a trip back home.

The night after our arrival back home, we made a 2-hour trip to visit extended family.  Here's Ava, chillin' with her great grandpa.

a 4-generation picture with Ava.  Ava is our first who was not able to get a 5-generation picture with her great great grandma.

Great Grandma giving Ava one of her famous horsey-rides.

I'm not sure what's so interesting about the cup, but it was fun to see the kids crowd around their Grandpa Bassett

All the kids with their grandparents.

Grandpa Jones teaching Ava how to talk.  Ava is soaking it in.

The extended Jones family has an annual Dec. 23 Christmas celebration.  Part of that tradition includes the famous/infamous "hat game."  Basically, it's musical chairs except instead of sitting, you have to make sure you have a hat on when the music stops.  There's one person without a hat each time the music starts playing.  The next several pictures are of the hat game process.

Dad, helping Chase, getting ready to take the hat when Chase's is taken.

Then there were 3.

Three became 2.

Working hard to try to get it off Uncle Spencer's head.

Still trying.

After the hat game, the kids started wrestling.  Our poor boys just didn't know how to do real wrestling, as shown in the pictures below.  They do some wrestling with each other, but it is definitely tame compared to others' wrestling.
Taken down by cousin James
Caden hoping for revenge, Chase trying to figure out what's going on.

Chase totally pinned by a girl much younger than him.

Chase still pinned.  The pile is getting bigger . . .

and bigger . . .

Add Jordan and it gets even bigger . . .

until it was a mass of kids and arms and legs were in all directions.

Santa came.  We didn't have any pictures of Ava meeting Santa, but it was the same as before.

The whole family with Santa.  Ava is making sure Santa doesn't try to do anything.

Ava still watching Santa.  Same folks, same places, different smiles.
