I taught Caden's preschool for the first time. It went really well. I'll be honest I was a bit nervous; five 3 year olds all boys but one. I must admit it went great. Here is what we did.
Welcome: Welcome song, Today is Monday Tomorrow Tuesday etc, weather
Songs: Head Shoulders, Itsy Bitsy Spider
Letter D: What look likes, draw air, sound it makes, Letter D work sheet, Made pretzels out of dough into the letter D (some kids also made snakes)
5 Senses
-song to tune of where is thumbkin
"Five senses, five senses
We have them. We have them.
Seeing, hearing, touching,
Tasting and smelling.
There are five. There are five.'
Seeing
-What do we use to see?
-I had made binoculars out of empty toilet paper rolls and yarn for a strap. Then used them to find things in room (ie something green, something round, etc)
Smell
-What do we use to smell?
-smelled different things: peanut butter, cinnamon, candle, our pretzels cooking
Hear
-What do we use to hear
-Made shakers: decorated paper plate folded in half, filled with beans and then closed. We then used shakers to dance to music.
-Printed pictures of animals and things, and then I showed one child the picture and they would try to get the other kids to guess it by making the noise it makes. (ie train- choo, choo; cat-meow)
Taste
-What do we use to taste?
-Tasted baking cocoa (bitter), salt (salty), lemon (sour), sugar (sweet)
Touch
-What do we use to feel things?
-Made puzzle: cut shapes out of different material (ie shiny fabric, sponge, corrugate cardboard, sandpaper) and traced them on a piece of cardboard to make a puzzle. I used them to talk about how each one felt, shapes, colors and counted how many pieces their are.
-Printed pictures of thing that are ok to touch (teddy bear, shoes, balls) and things that are not ok to touch (outlets, stove, curling iron, iron for clothes, matches, fire) they then had to glue them on a paper either on the touch or don't touch side.
We also read some stories and ate our pretzels.
