Family day trip to the mountains

We had a rare opportunity of me having a full weekend off.  So, we decided to take a trip to the mountains for some outdoor fun.  It took a bit to get the kids' chores done, but once they were done, we were off.

This and the next couple of pictures are more for the background view.  You can see the family in the distance, as well.

We had a quick lunch.

After a quick lunch, we continued on our path until we made it to a lake I have been wanting to see.  This is when I told the family to turn around and make a goofy face on the count of 3.  Ava is behind Jordan.

We did a little fishing.  We just need to learn how to make the fish bite--wrong time of day or wrong bait or something.

The girly girls preferred not to fish.  We had rain on and off for the 1 hour we fished.  Ava kept saying, "Let's go home, Dad."

Caden carefully monitoring his pole.

Next we played a little Hide and Seek.  Here's Kailyn trying to catch Jordan.  You can also kind of see Ava in the background.

Home base.  Kailyn got a few, but some made it safely.

We decided to do a little more geocaching, since it was so fun last time.  Here the kids are showing off their new prizes, or what they're trying to decide on.  Kailyn got lip gloss.  Jordan got a painted ceramic bird she immediately named Rainbow.  Caden got a parachute guy.  Chase got a toy motorcycle.  Ava picked a miniature shoe.  They gave up some of their own toys that they had not used for awhile in exchange for their new treasures.  We hit up a couple of other caches, but this was our favorite.

On the way home, the kids all decided they wanted gum.  Shelly obliged.  They tried blowing bubbles.  All of a sudden we hear Jordan yelling, "Ewww, someone spit their gum into my hair."  Shelly yelled, "Are you SERIOUS?  WHO DID THAT?!?"  Then we heard a cute voice, sounding proud of what she had done, reply, "Ava did it."  It was Ava who was so proud and who admitted her guilt.  I looked over at Shelly, who had busted up laughing.

Ava is trying to get the gum out because she asked for more, which I said she could not have, so she wanted her old gum back.

Cute Ava! What a nice sister to still smile with gum in her hair!

How fun to have the great outdoors so easy to get to.
